How breeding actually works
Every Pal carries a hidden value called its CombiRank. Common early-game Pals sit at the high end of the scale, while rare and legendary Pals sit near the bottom. When two Pals breed, the game averages their CombiRanks and the offspring is whichever Pal's CombiRank lands closest to that average — that is why two mid-tier parents can produce a Pal you would normally only find much later in the game.
The exception is the special combinations: 164 fixed pairs whose child is always the same, no matter what the formula would say. Most legendary variants (Frostallion Noct, Relaxaurus Lux, Lyleen Noct and the rest) can only be bred this way — Frostallion Noct comes from Frostallion + Helzephyr, and Lyleen Noct from Lyleen + Menasting. One combination is even gender-dependent — Katress and Wixen produce a different child depending on which parent is male.
Before you can breed anything you need the Breeding Farm, unlocked at Technology Level 19 for 100 Wood, 20 Stone and 50 Fiber, plus a steady supply of Cake. From there, planning is everything: use the reverse lookup above to work backwards from the Pal you want, and chain through intermediate Pals when no pair you own reaches it directly.
Frequently asked questions
How does Palworld breeding work?
Assign one male and one female Pal to a Breeding Farm (unlocked at Technology Level 19) and keep Cake stocked in the farm's box. They produce an Egg, which you hatch in an Egg Incubator. The child's species is decided by the parents' hidden CombiRank values — unless the pair is one of the fixed special combinations.
How is the offspring of two Pals calculated?
Each Pal has a hidden CombiRank. For ordinary pairs the game averages the two parents' CombiRanks — floor((Rank A + Rank B + 1) / 2) — and the child is the Pal whose CombiRank is closest to that average. Special combinations (164 of them, like Relaxaurus + Sparkit, which always produces Relaxaurus Lux) override the formula with a fixed result.
Can two Pals of the same species breed?
Yes. Breeding a Pal with itself produces the same species — either through the formula or, for Pals like Frostallion and Jetragon, through a 'breeds true' special combination recorded in the 1.0 data. That makes it easy to breed more of a rare Pal once you own a male and a female.
What is the fastest way to breed a specific Pal?
Use the reverse lookup on this page: pick the Pal you want and open its breeding page. It lists every parent combination, so you can choose a pair you already own instead of following a long breeding chain.
Is this calculator updated for Palworld 1.0?
Yes. The dataset covers all 299 breeding entries in Palworld 1.0, including the 183 Pals in the ordinary formula pool and all 164 special combinations, with CombiRank values taken from the game's 1.0 data.
